A helping hand
Hello God, it's me, Mara:
You know, Lord, a friend shared about seeing goodness of folks while out shopping. If we're paying attention, we might also see a 'helping hand'. Last week, a short elderly lady, tried to reach a box of pasta off the top shelf in the grocery store; no way could she reach it. A lad near her, turned, asked if she needed help. She smiled, pointed to a certain 'box' – he grabbed it, handed it to her; she thanked him. He actually looked a bit surprised to hear her say, 'THANK YOU!' He smiled, nodded and walked off.
To give a helping hand, to be a pal to help someone out, is a blessing to them and to us. For instance, at the gas station the other day, a gal couldn't get the gas pump to work, she was about to give up, when an older gal looked around the pump from where she was gassing up, asked if she needed help; then she did, 'whatever'- it clicked in, not sure what happened, but the pump snapped in, the older women hurried back to her side of the pump as the younger gal 'hollered' "THANK YOU!" to her.
You know, Lord, Grandma said we're to be a comfort and a 'helping hand'; she read us 1 Thessalonians 5:11[1]; included words like: be calm, charitable, encouraging, doing a kind act, lend a hand, work together; we could go on and on about how to be a helper.
Mentioning this to a friend, she added: 'As kids growing up, we were taught to be accommodating, aiding and supporting'. Then with a giggle, she pitched in, cleared the table and DID the dishes.
Thank YOU, Lord, for dear friends who are near us, lend a helping hand and talk about the hope YOU offer.
Love Mara
