Reimagining Rural comes to Ekalaka

Reimagining Rural, a series focused on strengthening rural community vitality, will kick off on Tuesday, February 4. Developed and organized by Montana State University Extension's Community Vitality Program, Reimagining Rural brings small towns together for three evenings to learn from experts and other small towns. Jennifer Anderson, Extension Community Vitality Associate Specialist, and series organizer said, "Reimagining Rural came from the idea that Montana's small towns, and even more so, the folks who call these places home, matter. These communities are special. People want more for their small towns but lack the capacity and resources to make positive changes. Reimagining Rural offers some much-needed help."

The series focuses on providing research-based information from rural experts and success stories from small towns across the state. In its fifth year, the program has grown and is appreciated by the communities. "The feedback we've received from past participants is that they appreciate hearing from other small towns. Probably the biggest takeaway is the relationship building between communities. They know they're not alone and can learn from each other; that's powerful," says Anderson.

Ekalaka is one of thirteen communities participating in the 2025 session. Locally, the program is being hosted by Carter County Museum and Carter County Extension and is meeting at Carter County Museum from 6 - 8 p.m. on Feb. 4, 11, and 18. The sessions are free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to join and Montana teachers can receive up to 2 hours of continuing education credits for each meeting that they attend. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
