Chocolate chip mystery trip

This is a true story. A story that begins in Ekalaka, MT and ends-who knows where? It is about a chocolate chip cookie "family" who wanted to take a short trip from Ekalaka to Almo, KY. The story is narrated by the family leader, Head Chip, because he contains the most c.c.'s of the family. Listen now as this story of a small c.c. family unfolds with all it's mystery and intrigue. Go ahead Head Chip.

"December 9th was a nice day in Ekalaka, as the weather goes. We were just taken to the Post Office and were greeted with the warm and cheery smile of our postal employee. She weighed us 3lbs. 3oz. and gave us our one-way $16.10 travel pass. There were 24 of us, thus only 67 cents a piece. No inefficiency here at all. Always cheerful, helpful, courteous and very efficient. Above the bar, so to speak. As such we were safely packed into the vehicle to take us to Billings, not a direct route to Almo, KY, but that is the way our parents, grandparents, etc. traveled in years past. Well, we arrived safely in Billings and were placed aboard a jet plane and headed for-WAIT-WHAT? SEATTLE WA? NO WAY! YES WAY!

"Now if you look at an Atlas road map, you will see that from Ekalaka to Almo, KY, 'as the crow flies' is only about seven inches. From Ekalaka to Seattle is approximately six inches. Not bad yet. But after seven days in Seattle, with all the comforts of airport storage, we were on our way. Airborne for, Where? Jersey City, NJ. Now according to my ruler, from Seattle to Jersey City, is 16 inches. We arrived in Jersey City on Monday, December 16th, and from there by carrier, on December 17th, to Evansville, IN at 7:30 PM. Then on December 18th we were shuttled to Murray, KY and finally reached our destination at Almo."

"Now we were chilled to the chip, a bit crumbly, but thankful it was just an inefficient Postal Service and not a take over by the enemy, with all the drones over NJ. We could have been captured and eaten by hostiles. So, who knows where? ended up with us safely at the home of our friend in Almo, KY, which is just south of Paducah, which is in the neighborhood of Monkey's Eyebrow and Possum Trot. So all being 'as the crow flies' a simple straight line from Ekalaka to Almo, being seven inches, we traveled a total of approximately 28 inches. Figuring ground travel we see it is about 1,326 road miles from Ekalaka to Almo and a total of 19 hours. We see that air and land miles from Ekalaka to all stops in between total approximately 4,993 miles. Compare Ekalaka to Almo at 19 hours and our mystery route about 216 hours."

So figuring jet fuel, electric vehicle service and over night lodging, BOY DID WE EVER GET OUR $16.10 WORTH! How is that for government efficiency?

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Nelson W. Rolando, Ekalaka
