Extended care news

October, 2024

Tuesday, the first day of October, was spent doing 1 on 1's and a Bible Study with Karen. After dinner Vernalea Kittelmann spent the afternoon playing "Wild 10" with the ladies. My understanding is Faye Kennedy won the game.

Wednesday morning a group went through their exercise session and from there played with a big ball. The afternoon activity was playing a game of "5 Crown". Marty's sister Janice Krietel joined the ladies and came out on top!

Thursday, Jimmy Curry along with his sisters made a trip to Miles City for a dentist apt. Jimmy enjoys his outings; he gets to see new country plus eat out! Back home the ladies played a card game of "Wild 10" with Marty the winner. Donna Guyer had company her son, Rusty, and his wife Marty spent some time visiting. Faye had company as well, Shaun's wife and Madlon has a visitor every day.

Monday, October 7 we celebrated the birth of Madlon Brence. A large majority of Madlon's family gathered to help her celebrate another year of life. A table was set up to hold the home-made angel food cakes made by Gail. Ice-cream was served along with punch and coffee. Wishing you a very blessed 96th year of life Madlon.

Tuesday morning was spent participating in a Bible Study and spending 1 on 1 time with those who don't usually participate in group activities. After dinner Vernalea Kittelmann came by and played "7" with the ladies. Donna Guyer had company, as did Gloria and Lenore.

October 9 was spent working out for 45 minutes, having lunch together and then on to a roaring new game of "Farkel"! This is a dice game and very new to the ladies. A definite new challenge!

Thursday, while in Ekalaka, the Governor of Montana, Grag Gianforte stopped by to have a tour of Dahl Memorial. This writer wanted to make sure the Governor met Milton Markuson, as Milton was a county commissioner for 18 years. The governor warmly greeted Milton and the two visited for abit while pictures were being taken. Overall, just a special time and memories were made. A few days later a package came for Milton, a large, framed picture of the Governor and Milton standing together.

After all the excitement of the Governor's visit, the residents had the opportunity to go for a ride and view the fall foliage. Arrangements were made to have the Carter Charter scheduled to come pick up anyone who wanted to go. Those who chose to go were Jimmy, Marty, Lois, Madlon, Milton, Faye and Gloria. Accompany the group was Virginia and myself, Cindy. Our driver was John Breding. The tour started in town and then on to the Ekalaka park. It was amazing to see the damage done to the trees after the July windstorm. But there were bright spots as well, the colors of the fall leaves were beautiful.

On Friday the 11 it was noted there might be a chance of frost. The flowers in the courtyard are still very showy but if it freezes, we are grateful to had a very long growing season.

On Wednesday, Phil provided the afternoon entertainment. Phil has scheduled himself for the 2nd Wednesday of every month to come and play and sing for our residents. On some occasions a few extra gentlemen accompanied him but on this day Phil went solo. Phil does a wide variety of songs, and the residents are most impressed with his selections. Thank you, Phil, for sharing your time and talents with us. Milton and his daughter had made a trip to Miles City so were not able to be here for the afternoon entertainment. Later in the afternoon, Karen and John had special guests, Florine and Nelson Rolando.

Thursdays Virginia comes in later but on this morning Jim and Deb Phalen came in to play piano for our residents. Deb plays a wide variety of music, and we thank her for sharing with us. While Deb is playing the piano, Jim visits with different ones.

Sunday, October 20, our hearts were saddened with the passing of Lenore Beach. Lenore was a quiet lady and could usually be found sitting near the nurse's station. Our sincere sympathy to her family.

Tuesday morning, Virginia had Gloria and Jimmy practicing their bells. Virginia is hoping for more members to join the Bell Choir. Po-Ke-No was on the agenda for the afternoon activity. But as it usually happens, after a round or two of Po-Ke-No the ladies are ready for a card game.

Wednesday afternoon, Tom Stieg and Jerry Thieme joined the ladies for a round or two of "Wild 10". It was noted that Jerry came out on top, congratulations Jerry!

Friday morning, the 25th Marty and Virginia worked on a large Halloween puzzle. Carole had company, her husband Butch and Penny (their dog), her granddaughter Jorden along with Jorden's little boy. All of whom bring a smile to Carole!

Wednesday afternoon Jerry, Madlon's daughter brought sugar cookies shaped like pumpkins to share with the residents. A special treat to have for our afternoon snack. Thank you, Jerry!

October 31, Halloween arrived! With much anticipation the Activity Dept. prepared for the day. Bags of candy were purchased, arrangements made with the school, and preschoolers. The parade of costumes was to start about 1:30. The residents were all set to go, several large containers of candy were placed with the residents. The younger grades started the event, so much energy! Mrs. Guyer had her group sing a song about Halloween. The parade continued; such a wide variety of costumes and the teachers dressed up as well. Many of the students have great grandparents who reside here so pictures were taken with family members. The preschool, under the direction of Amie Nies had such a large group, one group came in the morning and the second group came in the afternoon. Both groups sang songs as well! To top the afternoon off, the children from the day care came over, some were being pulled in a wagon but most of them walked. It really was a special day, so many smiles and giggles from our residents! To all those who help make this little event happen, Thank You!

Until Next Time.....
