More progress was seen on the veterans memorial at Perso Park in Ekalaka earlier this week, just in time for Veterans Day.
The three walls of the memorial are now complete. There are a total of 1017 names, arranged by war, on the front and back of the two outside walls. A seal for the United States Space Force (USSF) was also recently added to the middle wall. USSF is the newest branch of the United States Armed Forces, established in December 2019.
A misunderstanding regarding the installation of the granite caused another delay in the project's timeline. Jewell Masonry, the business doing most of the other work on the project, was also recently assigned with engineering that portion too. The business wrapped up for the season in Ekalaka last week. Next spring, plans are for the donor sign to be added as well as a sidewalk and pavers, the final steps for the project's completion.
The committee heading up the memorial remains grateful for the generosity of the community and many businesses paying tribute to veterans who unselfishly served this country.
