Unofficial 2024 general election results

November 5, 2024 - Carter County, Montana

Just over eighty-six percent of Carter County voters cast ballots in the 2024 Federal General Election on Tuesday. For comparison, 81 percent of voters cast ballots in the 2022 general election, 84 percent did in 2016, 78 percent did in 2018 and 94 percent did in 2020. In total, 865 ballots were cast from the county's 1005 registered voters. Precinct 3 (Hammond) had the best voter turnout at 91 percent, Precinct 14 (Rural Ekalaka) had a 90.5 percent turnout, Precinct 1 (Alzada) had an 85.4 percent turnout, and Precinct 13 (Ekalaka) had the lowest county voter turnout at 78.1 percent.

There were no major local races in Tuesday's election. Republican Dan Dinstel received 751 votes for District 3 Carter County Commissioner. Dinstel previously defeated current commissioner Mike Watkins by 24 votes in this year's primary. Tracey Walker received 795 votes (the highest total of the night in Carter County) for Clerk of District Court/Superintendent of Schools. Locals Greg Brence and Travis Loehding received 622 and 441 votes, respectively, for Carter County Conservation District.

Carter County residents were generally opposed to all three constitutional initiatives on this year's ballot. There were 227 votes for and 612 votes against Constitutional Initiative No. 126. Constitutional Initiative No. 127 received 187 votes for and 636 votes against. Constitutional Initiative No. 128 received 274 votes for and 557 votes against.
