Sunday, September 1st Betty Cline and Valorie O'Connell represented the Lutheran Church by coming in and having a gospel sing. Thank you, ladies, for sharing your Sunday afternoon with us. Betty also shared some of her garden produce with the dietary dept.
Monday, Labor Day, was the last 4-day weekend for the summer. For the most part I feel people who did not have to come to work just stayed home and worked, truly it was Labor Day!
Tuesday, Sept. 3, Gloria Preuss along with her daughter Lisa made the decision to make Dahl Memorial her new home. We welcome you Gloria, and hope this will be an easy transition for you.
Wednesday afternoon the ladies played several rounds of "Wild 10". Marty won and our newest member Gloria came in 2nd. Teresa Tauck stopped in to see her mother Faye, and the two of them spent time out in the courtyard.
Thursday, Tricia Lovec stopped over to spend some time with her mother, Lois. The two of them played a round or 2 of "5 crown," Tricia came out on top! Lenore Beach also had company, her son Keith and granddaughter Jeanie. That group spent time outside in the courtyard.
Sunday, Sept. 8 has been deemed "Grandparents Day." The Hope Baptist church came in to hold Sunday services with our residents. The 8th is also the day of Jimmy Curry's birth. Happy birthday Jimmy!
Monday afternoon, Carol Carey brought in Jimmy's favorite for his birthday celebration, "Angel Food Cake". Carole reported she would be the lone family member as her sister Candy and husband Bill were not up to par! The cake was served with peaches, another of Jimmy's favorites. Jimmy celebrated 80 years of life! Wishing you many more birthdays Jimmy!
Tuesday afternoon the ladies played several rounds of "Po-Ke-No." Madlon was the prize winner as she had one more chip than Gloria! Don't kid yourself, the competition is serious around here!
On the 2nd Wednesday of every month, Phil and the crew are scheduled to play and sing for our residents. Wednesday, the 11th Phil had extras, Robert Boggs and Dane Castelberry. These gentlemen can really put on a show! Their singing and entertaining goes a long way, thank you for sharing your talents with us. To add to the merriment, popcorn was served in carnival type boxes.
Saturday, the 14th, Sharon Higgins came from Spearfish, S.D. to spend some time here recuperating.
On the evening of the 17th and the morning of the 18th this area received some much needed rain. Virginia was excited as the flower beds did not have to be watered that day!
When Marty Carroll questions me about when the beauty shop is going to open again, I then know it's time to contact Sarah Reynolds.
Wednesday, Sept. 18, Sarah Reynold spent some quality time with a few of our ladies. Sarah trims and sets several of our ladies' hair. Thank you, Sarah, for your willingness to be a servant!
Friday afternoon, the 20th a serious game of "Wild 10" was on the agenda. Sharon was able to join the ladies, but Marty was the over all winner. Butch and his dog Penny came into visit with his wife Carole.
Homecoming week was the 23rd through the 28th. James Kapptie, the school superintendent, wanted to make this year's Homecoming parade bigger and longer than ever before. It was suggested a float be put together with residents who were alumni of CCHS. Dahl has a total of 10 alumni but only 4 residents were willing to ride. Instead of a flat bed, the Carter Charter was used. The 4 residents riding were Milton Markuson, (1956), Neal Heggen, (1969), Gloria Preuss, (1948), and Madlon Brence, (1945). The rest of the residents were brought out through the clinic doors and watched from front row seats!
The morning of the 27th Deb Phalen stopped in and played a wide variety of music on the piano. We thank you Deb for your willingness to give of your time and talents.
I had noticed Fats Jardee in the halls of Dahl and made a bee line to visit him. Fats and Sherry have a beautiful yard and a host of bird feeders. I was looking for some advice on bird feeders and how to attract birds. He shared with me some ideas and later that week brought in a couple of sources of bird feed. Thank You Fats! But to my demise, Milton still points out the fact there are no birds at the feeders!
Kelly Laughery celebrated the day of his birth on the 29th day of Sept. His niece surprised him and stopped by and picked him up and took him out for the evening. He was able to have dinner with family and celebrate his birthday. Happy Birthday Kelly!
Until Next Time.....
