Bulldog nation embraces experiential learning at Safety Squad Rally

The inaugural Safety Squad Rally at Ekalaka Public Schools was a resounding success, showcasing Bulldog Nation's dedication to experiential learning and community engagement.

On Monday, October 14th, the school parking lot transformed into a bustling hub of safety education. Students of all ages, from kindergarteners to high school seniors, had the opportunity to explore a variety of stations, learning about fire safety, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and more.

The event featured representatives from Southeast Electric Cooperative, local EMTs, Ekalaka Volunteer Fire Department, Carter County Rural Fire, the sheriff's office, and regional emergency services. Students had the chance to ask questions, see firsthand the equipment used by first responders, and learn about the importance of safety in their daily lives.

By providing students with hands-on experiences, the Safety Squad Rally aligned perfectly with Ekalaka Public Schools' emphasis on experiential learning. This approach not only enhances students' understanding of important safety concepts but also prepares them for potential emergencies and explores career pathways in public safety fields.

As Carter County High School student Tracy Wilson noted, "It showed us opportunities for first responder jobs in Ekalaka."

The event's success is a testament to the dedication of the school staff, local first responders, and the community as a whole.

"Seeing equipment and listening to volunteers may influence or give students more options to think about," added fellow student Danica Shepherd.

As Bulldog Nation continues to foster a culture of safety and community engagement, the Safety Squad Rally will undoubtedly become an annual tradition.
