Autumn leaves and board meetings: A community focused update

The October board meeting was a colorful reflection of the season, and a testament to the vibrant spirit of our school community. As we gathered to discuss the school's progress and upcoming events, the crisp autumn air seemed to infuse the proceedings with a sense of anticipation.

This month marked a significant milestone for our board: we live-streamed the meeting. The overwhelming response, with over 100 views by the end of the evening, highlighted the community's growing interest in our school's operations. While we're still working to refine the technical aspects of live streaming, we're excited about the potential to increase transparency and engagement.

The meeting began with a bittersweet announcement: our esteemed Board Chair, Sam Wright, would be stepping down from her leadership role but would remain an active member of the board. Her dedication and contributions have been invaluable.

Our young scholars, the fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, kicked off the recognition segment with proud reports from their teachers. This heartwarming tradition, now a staple of our monthly meetings, provides a glimpse into the vibrant learning experiences taking place in our classrooms.

A variety of community-focused events were on the agenda. We celebrated the success of the Remington Fire Relief fundraiser and Homecoming. Looking ahead, we discussed the upcoming MAST testing, the enchanting Reading Under the Lights event on October 10th, the Safety Squad Rally on Monday, October 14th, the Breakfast with Besties and BARK awards on October 16th, the Night at the Museum on November 4th, and the festive Christmas stroll on December 5th.

Athletic Directors presented updates on potential new alignments for Class C, sparking thoughtful discussion among board members.

As we continue to refine our processes for a smoothly functioning school, the hiring process received particular attention. We clarified the interview procedures and recommendation process. We're delighted to announce the hiring of Mick O'Connor as our new high school track coach.

The board also revisited the Strategic Plan adopted in January 2023. Self-evaluation is a crucial step in ensuring we're on track to achieve our goals, and we're committed to working through this document with our staff, students, and community.

I encourage all community members to attend our board meetings and stay informed about the school's activities. Your input is invaluable as we work together to create a thriving learning environment for our students.

Please remember that board minutes and meeting recordings are available after each session, providing a detailed account of our discussions and decisions.

My door is always open. If you haven't stopped by recently, please do.
