It's been an improved defense that has made the difference so far this season for the CCHS Bulldog football team. The boys started their season at home on August 31st with a late afternoon game against the Plentywood Wildcats. Blue rolled to a 24-0 victory, the first shutout the team has pitched in recent memory.
Sophomore back Roger Beach scored the first touchdown of the season on a 55-yard run. Quarterback Chace Loehding ran in the other two Bulldog touchdowns, both of which came from inside the 5-yard-line and capped long scoring drives. Beach also ran in a pair of two-point conversions; senior back Zander Ashbrook ran in the other. Defensively, Jace Pardee blocked a punt and Kaleb Frye had an interception.
The 'Dogs controlled the ball and the clock for most of the game, especially in the first quarter when they held the ball for over 9 minutes before eventually turning it over on downs after getting behind the chains as a result of two holding penalties.
In Broadus on September 6th, The 'Dogs scored through the air and on the ground on their way to a 46-6 victory over the Hawks. Blue again played stout defense but did have some trouble containing Broadus' quarterback when he scrambled, which was how the Hawks were able to score in the first quarter. The 'Dogs put up 16 points in the first quarter and 22 in the second. A score early in the third led to a running clock and Blue was able to substitute in some of their reserves and younger players. CCHS added a safety which was the only score of what ended up being a quick fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs are now 2-0 this season. They play Forsyth at home this Friday and then travel to Circle next week.
