Gumbo Gophers have busy summer

submitted by Daniel Hall, Reporter

The Gumbo Gophers have been and are planning to have a busy summer. In June, the club met at the Higgins Ranch to have their market animals weighed in. During the meeting the members voted to clean up and place a new sign at the Alzada Cemetery.

July 15th the club had a meeting in Alzada. First, we heard from our members who attended 4H Congress. Then, we planned the annual Lake Day and the BBQ fundraiser at the end of July. Finally, we voted on a float theme for the fair, and discussed the upcoming Carter County Fair.

Lake day is July 21 at Orman Dam starting at 10 a.m. Gumbo Gophers are hosting a barbecue fundraiser for the volunteer fire department on July 31st. Activities start at 5 p.m., supper starts at 6 p.m. There are activities like dunk tank, corn hole, turtle race, cotton candy and chicken poop bingo. There is also a silent auction. Bring friends along, the more the jollier.
