Extended care news

May, 2024

The Merry month of May! Do you remember the tradition of having a basket of goodies or an arrangement of flowers placed on your front step? You would hear a knock on the door and before you could answer the giver was gone? Or as a small child dancing around the May Day Pole?

Tuesday, May 7 the weather was cool and wet. There was thunder and lightning along with rain. The moisture is so welcome in this area, hope to see more.

Tuesday afternoon Bingo was on the agenda, Madlon was the top Bingo player. Sarah Reynolds opened the beauty shop and had several waiting for a new dew. While different ones were getting their hair set, the others started another game, “5 Crown”. Madlon’s daughter, Jerri stopped by and played a few rounds of the game as well.

Wednesday the 8th day of May it continued to rain. It rained until late into the afternoon. Several of the residents sat in the day room just watching the rain come down.

Phil Cook, Dane Castleberry and Rhonda Reynolds came to share their talents with our residents. Several old-time favorites were played and sung. For the most part, Karen knows all the words to every song, so if Phil tries to pull a fast one, she lets him know! Thank you for giving up an afternoon for us, you are appreciated!

Friday the 10th day of May, Alicia Knapp was honored for her years of service to Dahl Memorial, 34 years! In her honor a noon meal was served to Alicia, her family, the board of directors, the staff, residents and close family friends. A beautifully decorated cake was served as well. Thank you, Alicia, enjoy your retirement!

Sunday, May 12 was Mother’s Day. The Dietary dept. served a beautiful dinner. Several of our ladies received bouquets of flowers from their families. Special thanks to Madlon’s family for placing fresh flowers on each of the dining room tables.

There are bird feeders in the courtyard. Several of the residents have been entertaining each other by trying to figure out what kind of birds are dining on our feeders. Madlon has a Montana Bird book and has helped identify the birds. Madlon’s daughter Jerri brought over and hung up two finch feeders. These are to attract the little yellow finches. The feeders are emptied so fast, either by the birds or by our brisk winds!

Wednesday afternoon the craft project was painting little ceramic tea pots. The thought was to plant flower seeds in each pot and watch a beautiful flower appear.

Friday, May 17 while passing out the afternoon snacks, a windstorm came up, and just that fast the electricity went out. A generator kicked in but doesn’t provide electricity for all the rooms. The wind blew so hard it blew over poles north of town. But thanks to our faithful crew at Southeast Electric, we had electricity in short order.

Saturday, May 18 Lenore Beach celebrated her birthday with family members while enjoying cake and ice-cream. Wishing you many more birthday celebrations Lenore!

Saturday afternoon Carter County High School held its commencement services. The class of 2024 completed 12 years of education and now ready to go out into the world! Juno Mcgraw and Brynn Loehding are both employees of Dahl Memorial. Congratulations ladies and wish you the very best in your future adventures.

On Memorial Day the dining room was decorated with red and white tablecloths, napkins with blue stars and fresh flowers from the Brence family. Diane Wear was the cook and really did a beautiful job on the noon meal. The grills were going strong as Diane grilled hamburgers and hotdogs along with all the other picnic style dishes.

To our Veterans who have served in the past or present, Thank You! Thank You seems so inadequate but your service to our country is truly appreciated!

Tuesday, May 28 Catherine Smith passed away. Catherine was the grandmother of one of our nurses, Willow Meyer. Catherine had only lived in Dahl Memorial a short time, but the staff grew to love her, a very gracious kind woman. Sending our deepest sympathy to her family.

The Markuson family donated a picnic table in memory of Janice Markuson. The table now sits in our courtyard just waiting to be used! Thank you, Milton and Karen!

Until Next Time.....
