EMS Week: 'Honoring our past, forging our future'

Ekalaka Ambulance was started many decades ago with an Oldsmobile station wagon. With the dedication and perseverance of many community members that became EMTs and joined the team, Ekalaka Ambulance is still going strong and is continuing to progress in its medical care.

This year represents the 50th anniversary of EMS week in our nation. “Honoring Our Past, Forging Our Future” is the heart of EMS week this year.

Dahl Memorial Healthcare Association will be hosting EMS week May 20th-23rd. Each day from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. will be dedicated to a different topic related to emergency medical services.

On Monday, locals may head to the ambulance bay at the hospital to learn what it takes to be an EMT. Tuesday, will also be held in the ambulance bay at the hospital. The public is invited to learn about situational awareness. Wednesday is Children’s Day, Ekalaka Ambulance will be at the school giving tours of the ambulance and answering questions from the kids. Thursday, is Save-A-Life Day, learn about hands only CPR and how to stop the bleed, which will be held in the ambulance bay of the hospital.

Friday, May 24th will be a day to recognize the members of Ekalaka Ambulance. Beginning at 5 p.m. in the main lobby of the hospital, staff will be honoring the dedication of the EMTs from the past and present. Please join throughout the week! Local EMTs look forward to giving back to the community that has supported the Emergency Medical Services System throughout the years and are honored to show appreciation to those that have dedicated so much.
