A Memorial Service for Betty L. Mueller, 90, of Baker will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 29th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with Don Buerkle officiating. Burial will follow in Bonnievale Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home.
Betty Mueller passed away on March 25, 2024 at Fallon County Medical Complex in Baker.
Betty was born on February 7, 1934 to Harry and Rose (Buan) Gauze in Ft. Meade, SD. Betty’s father Harry was in the military so she grew up in various locations in South Dakota and Wyoming. In 1952, she graduated high school in Rapid City, SD and then attended the Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, SD and graduated with her teacher certificate in 1955. While at college she met Max Mueller and they married December 25, 1955. They started their life in Rapid City where she was a teacher for one year. After a short time in White River, SD, Betty and Max moved to Baker where they have made their home for past 67 years.
Max and Betty raised their five children in Baker. She was a large part of the community in Baker and the surrounding area. Betty played an active role as the President of the Treasure State Girl Scout Council, Fallon County Medical Center Board Chairman and Council on Aging President. From 1970-1998, Betty was the County Director of Social Services for Fallon, Carter, & Wibaux counties. After retirement, she and Max enjoyed their life together with their growing family, many family gatherings & attending the grandchildren’s events.
Betty will be greatly missed by Max, her husband of 68 years; sons, Kenneth (Renee) Mueller, Karl (Ginger) Mueller; daughters, Beth (Roger) Meggers, Jana Mueller, Ann (Mark) Hilderbrand; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by infant daughter Laura; parents, Harry and Rose Gauze; brother, James Gauze; step-father, Leo Erz, & son-in-law, Jerry Huss.
