Ekalaka Elementary School was buzzing with excitement last week as students and teachers alike celebrated Dr. Seuss Week from March 3rd to March 6th. Each day was filled with colorful costumes and creative activities inspired by the beloved children's author.
The festivities kicked off on Monday with "Fox in Socks" day, where students wore their craziest socks in honor of the character. Tuesday saw the school flooded with orange as everyone participated in "The Lorax" day.
Wednesday brought out the wackiness for "Wacky Wednesday," with students finding their most crazy outfits. And on Thursday, Ekalaka Elementary became a cozy slumber party as students arrived in their pajamas to celebrate "The Sleep Book."
But the fun didn't stop there. Thursday afternoon saw the entire school busy as students from all grades were grouped together to rotate through various Seuss-themed activities in different classrooms.
In Mrs. O'Connell's classroom, students dove into the underwater world of "Red Fish, Blue Fish," painting Karo syrup fishbowls and engaging in a game of pickup goldfish crackers using chopsticks. Meanwhile, in Mr. Montemayores's class, the challenge was on to build textbook domino structures after listening to "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?"
Over in Miss Whitney Kittelmann's classroom, students were read the classic "The Cat in the Hat," while making their own hats on bands and practicing their coordinate grid skills to draw the iconic character. The activity ended with a showdown to build the tallest tower of cups with their non-dominant hands and without verbal communication with their partners.
Throughout the week, classrooms across the school immersed themselves in the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, reading his books, crafting Seuss-inspired art projects, playing games, and simply having fun celebrating a literary legend.
Ekalaka Elementary teachers agree that it was wonderful to see our students so engaged and enthusiastic about reading and learning. Dr. Seuss Week has been a fantastic opportunity to foster a love of literature and creativity in our students.
