Lady 'Dogs go 1-2 in conference games

The CCHS Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in their last three conference games, dating back to a January 30th contest in Broadus against the Lady Hawks in which they lost by 14, 46-60. Lady Blue went 10-18 (56 percent) on free throws, 9-33 (27 percent) on two-pointers, and 6 of 17 (35 percent) from behind the arc. They did manage to out-rebound the Lady Hawks, 34-29, but lost the turnover battle, 21-10. Kendra Tooke had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Lady Blue. Lady Hawk Zeason Schaffer led all scorers with 22 points.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the glass in a game at Plevna last Friday as they out-rebounded the Lady Cougars 65 to 34. They also won the turnover battle, 16-22. Yet, somehow they lost the contest 33-39. Plevna did shoot 32 free throws in the game, compared to only 14 for CCHS. Danica Shepherd led CCHS in points with 13, but the number that really stood out on the stat sheet was her 25 rebounds. Kendra Tooke also finished with double-digit points (11) and rebounds (14). Brylee Swarts had a game-high 14 points for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Bulldogs came back with a big conference win the following night, February 3rd, at home as they defeated the Lady Terriers, 53-45. CCHS had a huge second quarter in which they outscored Terry 16-2 to pull away. Again, Lady Blue won the rebound battle (42-26). Each team had 16 turnovers in the contest. CCHS shot 10-22 from the charity stripe; Terry shot 3-7. Interior shooting for the Lady Bulldogs also improved from the previous night as they went 17 of 50 (34 percent) from inside the arc. Keli Melton led Lady Blue in points with 17 on 6 of 15 shooting from the field. Both Kendra Tooke and Danica Shepherd again had double-doubles for the Lady 'Dogs.

This weekend CCHS wraps up regular season play. They will then prepare for the District 4C Tournament which is scheduled to tip-off on February 15th at the Custer County District High School gym.
