The Fallon-Carter Homemakers clubs learned about several cooking methods during the recent fall council meeting. The Diligent Doers Club hosted the meeting Oct. 4 at Camp Crook Community Center.
Guest speakers followed the day’s theme “Prairie Cooking: Past and Present.” First, Tawni Cordell gave a presentation on Cast Iron Cooking. She had a few ladies help her mix the ingredients for apple crisp, peach cobbler and cherry cobbler. Cordell showed the group how to place the iron skillets by the hot coals.
Next, Denise Zolnoski demonstrated ways to use an air fryer. She made bagels and pork bites. The group enjoyed sampling food from both presentations.
Amanda Williams, Fallon-Carter County Extension Agent, shared about research based procedures to canning and preserving fruits, vegetables and meats. She handed out USDA Complete Guides to Home Canning. Anyone who would like a copy of this resource should contact Fallon-Carter County Extension at 406-778-7110.
Acting President, Dawn Padden, led the council business meeting which about 25 members and guests attended. They elected the following officers: Laurie Elmore as President, Kendyl Polatas as Vice President and Sharon Higgins as Secretary-Treasurer.
The Diligent Doers provided a baked potato bar for lunch. They had vintage items decorating the tables. Door prizes included hot pads made by the Diligent Doers Club and cookbooks. The ladies shared family recipes or old recipes during the recipe swap.
Members brought items for the basket raffle that raised funds for scholarships for high school seniors. The Homemakers Heritage Club will host the Spring Council meeting.
