The Bulldogs traveled to Lame Deer on Friday for a game that counted only as a junior varsity contest, though both teams had varsity players suited. The Bulldogs handily won, securing a running clock by halftime when the score was 44-8. The game allowed younger players to get some playing time while also allowing older players to work on specific skills. The Dawgs also played a 3-4 defense for the entirety of the game - the third different defensive front they have shown so far in this young season. Hopefully the extra reps and ability to play multiple defenses will come in handy for Blue later this season.
Highlights of the contest included several touchdown runs by first-year player Ethan Mellon. Mellon showed both quickness and agility from the tailback position. Another highlight was when senior lineman Cole Rost lined up at the fullback position. Rost even managed to tally a few carries in the game.
On Friday, the Bulldogs will have all sixteen rostered players suited up and ready for their homecoming game versus the Broadus Hawks at 7 p.m. on Rowley Field. Tuesday was the first time all 16 had practiced together this year. The Bulldogs currently sit atop the 8-Man Southeast conference. Next weekend they travel to Forsyth.
