After JV and varsity losses in Terry last Thursday night, the Lady ‘Dogs varsity volleyball team finished second at an all-day tournament on Saturday.
Against Terry, it was a similar theme for both teams as they won the first set of their matches and then lost the next three consecutive sets. The JV squad won the first 25-12. The next three sets were 14-25, 14-16, and 7-15.
In the varsity match, CCHS won the first set 25-13, and then lost the next three; 14-15, 23-25, and 23-25. Five players each had an ace for the Lady ‘Dogs. Brynn Loehding led the team in kills with 7 of 17. Nasya O’Connor had 4 of 5 blocks, Kendra Tooke had 9 of 30 digs and Danica Shepherd led in assists with 16.
At the tournament on Saturday, CCHS competed in six, two-set matches. In the first match they defeated Plevna, 25-7 and 25-18. In match two they beat a JV team from Sidney, 25-9 and 25-16. In match three they lost one set to Wibaux (23-25) but won a second set (25-15). In match four they handled Frazer in two straight sets, 25-9 and 25-15. In match five they beat Westby-Grenora in two straight sets, 25-15 and 25-14. In their sixth and final match, the tournament’s championship, they lost to Richey-Lambert in two straight sets, 20-25 and 20-25.
As a team for the entire day, the Lady Bulldogs compiled 61 aces, 93 kills, 14 blocks, 84 digs, and 68 assists. Kendall Kittelmann and Nasya O’Connor tied for the team lead in aces with 14 a piece. O’Connor also led CCHS in kills (33), blocks (11), and digs (19). Danica Shepherd led the way in assists with 55, nearly 81 percent of the team total.
The Lady Bulldogs will next take on the Plevna Lady Cougars this Saturday, September 2nd in Plevna.
