The Gumbo Gophers 4-H Club held their June meeting on the 11th at the Alzada Hall. Market sheep and goat weigh-ins were held before the meeting. Members set the date for lake day on July 21st at Orman Dam. They also set the date for the Fireman’s BBQ on August 2 at 6 p.m. at the Alzada Hall. Natalie gave an illustrated talk on DNA Fingerprinting and Alivia gave one on Biome Presentation Tropical Pacific Ocean. Amanda from the extension office held a knot tying workshop after the meeting.

The July meeting was held on the 21st at Orman Dam. Members finished planning the BBQ and decided what everyone was bringing. They also discussed silent auction donations, thank you cards and games. Everyone had a fun time swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and playing on the pad.

The club’s next meeting will be on August 2 before the BBQ. Everyone is invited to the Gumbo Gophers Fireman’s BBQ on August 2 at 6 p.m. at the Alzada Community Hall. There will be food, a silent auction, yard games and a dunk tank. The proceeds will benefit the Alzada Volunteer Fire Department and the 4-H Club. The Gumbo Gophers also invite everyone to the Carter County 4-H/FFA Market Sale on August 12 at 3:30 p.m. Members are working hard to get their animals ready for the fair and sale.
