Happy Father’s Day
Hello God, it’s me, Mara:
You know, Lord, sometimes what kids say is special. Take for instance what Adam shared about his little boy, who asked, “Dad, what time is it? Adam told Al that it was 5:30, though he knew what Al was going to say, even IF he was sitting in the back seat. Al piped up, “No, Dad, it’s 5:28!” Adam watched Al’s face light up. Gotcha...his beaming smile said it all. Adam continued; “I felt delight, too, the kind of delight that comes from knowing your child in the way that only a parent can know their child. I thank the Lord, who has made being a ‘dad’ a special blessing; daily, I call on Him[1] to help me be who He wants me to be!”
While enjoying a day in the park, Carla shared that two young boys came along, just ahead of one of their dads. “Skinny bones, skinny bones,” one boy sneered. “Sticks!” the other one chimed in. In response, a nearby little girl shouted, “That’s not how it goes! It’s like this: ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.’” The dad laughed, the boys giggled, and Carla did too.
Dan mentioned that there’s a game where people line up with the lead person whispering a sentence to the next person and so on until the last person has to say it out loud. It can be hysterical. The more people in the line, the more screwed up the sentence becomes.
Lord, sometimes we forget Your promises and allow ourselves to become fearful or jealous. Thank You for enabling us to be a ‘lead’ in the line, spreading Your truths. Lord, You have blessed us in many ways – and we truly Thank You for our fathers.
Love, Mara
