Louie Charles Breding, Jr "Bud" was born in Winner, South Dakota on April 10, 1940. He was delivered by his father, Louie Charles Breding, on the family farm. He left this earth early morning on March 21, 2023 in the Tillamook Regional Medical Center in Tillamook, Oregon.
Bud started school in Winner, South Dakota at a country school until 1951, when he moved with his family to a farm near Ekalaka. There he went to Cornish School until 8th grade.
He worked for the Hendricks (a neighbor) and around Ekalaka. Then he went with a combine crew to Oklahoma for one year.
He went to Newell, South Dakota to work on a sheep ranch where he lived in a sheep wagon. Returning to the family farm, he worked with his dad for a while, before ranching for Yates and Tauck. Next, he moved to Marmarth, North Dakota to work for Evelyn Bradack, until she sold to Dr. Tom. Bud worked for Dr. Tom until he sold the ranch, then he went to Rhame, North Dakota to work as a cop for a while. Bud's last and longest employment was for Leo Heinrich, ranching and trucking for many years until he retired. A shared memory of Bud was that he did every job there was to be done on the Heinrich ranch, but some of his most memorable traits was his big grin when behind the wheel of a cattle pot, or sitting in the Bowman Ford dealership, BS-ing with customers.
On July 24, 2008, Louie married Barbara Patten. They dated during their teens but parted ways when Barbara went away to school. They reconnected in January of 2006, picking up where they left off. In July of 2008, Louie flew to California to bring Barbara home to Bowman, North Dakota where they lived for 1.5 years. Then they moved to California (where Barbara's children lived) and resided in Oroville for 9.5 years, before moving again to Clarksville, Tennessee.
Bud and Barbara were vacationing with friends and family when Louie had a heart attack and passed away.
Those preceding him in death were his parents, Louie and Alice Breding and his brother, Bill Breding.
Bud is survived by his wife, Barbara, 5 step-daughters; Dianna, Tammy (Chris Dunn), Kimberly (Gary Follettie), Michelle (John Aldridge), and Kelly, 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is survived also by sisters and brothers: Alice Ward of Ekalaka; Betty Simonitsch (Mike) of Ekalaka; Ida Schade and Ella Schaaf of Bowman, ND; Dorothy Noack of Bozeman, MT; Lois Burghduff of Belle Fourche, SD; Johnny Breding (Sue) of Ekalaka; Esther Hannon (Tim) of Aurora, CO; and Joe Breding of Ekalaka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 with Pastor Jim Biswell officiating at the Carter County Event Center in Ekalaka, with lunch following. After lunch, the spreading of his ashes will be on the family farm (Joe Breding's farm).
