Wauneita Maxine Kane

Wauneita Maxine Schallenberger Kane was born August 7th, 1938 to Joe and Marjorie (Powell) Schallenberger. She was the second oldest of five children. She is preceded in death by her husband Ed Kane, both parents, grandparents Frank and Nellie Schallenberger, James Powell, Effie Strain, step-grandfather O.M. Strain, brother-in-law Don Smith, and grandson Zachary O'Neill.

Wauneita married Derl Clark in 1955 and graduated from Carter County High School in 1956. They had four children together.

Wauneita and Derl ranched in both Montana and Arizona. Wauneita and Derl divorced in 1979 and she moved to New Mexico. Wauneita worked at several restaurants.

In June of 1981 she married Ed Kane. They remained in New Mexico where Wauneita worked as a cook at the detention center for over 20 years.

Wauneita was a dedicated and loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved her family, sewing, crocheting, cooking, flowers, and dachshunds. She always seemed to have dachshunds in the home.

After the passing of her husband Ed, she moved in with her oldest daughter LaRae (Bobby) Atkinson where she lived until her passing.

She is survived by an older sister Betty Smith; younger sisters Linda (Nolan) Pottorff, Gail (Charles) Brence; younger brother Gary (Nita) Schallenberger; daughters LaRae (Robert) Atkinson, Carol Cherrey, Nancy (Matt) O'Neill; son Merle (Sandy) Clark; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
