The varsity Bulldogs got their first conference win of the season by defeating the Wibaux Longhorns in a game that came down to the wire at CCHS last Friday. The 'Dogs had a one-point lead at the half and widened the gap to six by the end of the third quarter. Wibaux overcame the deficit, though, and had a one-point lead with under two minutes to go. At about the 1:40 mark in the fourth, Wyatt Melton hit a shot to put the 'Dogs back up by one. On Wibaux's next possession, scrappy full court defense from the 'Dogs led to a jump ball which gave them the ball back. On their next possession, senior Bulldog J.W. Elmore hit a three-pointer that gave CCHS a four-point, 52-48, lead with one minute remaining.

After a missed three-point attempt by the 'Horns, Kaleb Frye was fouled and made one free throw that gave Blue a five point lead. Wibaux came back and hit a three with 30 seconds remaining to draw within 2. They were then forced to foul. After missing the first attempt at the line, Melton hit the second free throw to give the 'Dogs their final point, and a three-point cushion.

Wibaux did have one last chance. Though they turned it over on the next possession, a quick foul put Elmore back at the free throw line for the 'Dogs. Elmore missed both free throws. The Longhorns raced down the court after collecting the rebound and got a decent look at a three-pointer with time expiring. The shot clanged off the front iron, and the Bulldogs held on, 54-51.

Blue shot 11 of 24 (46 percent) on free throws. As a team, they hit 5 shots from behind the arc. Important for the win was the fact that they limited turnovers, committing only 15 while the Longhorns had 26. The 'Horns made 5 of their 15 free throw attempts.
