Bulldog girls win weekend contests

The CCHS Lady Bulldogs maintained their first place standing in the district by winning a pair of conference games over the weekend. The girls defeated Terry at home on January 20, 64-32, and won on the road at Broadus the following night, 61-39.

Versus Terry, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Terriers in every quarter. As a team, CCHS had 18 steals, 10 assists, 14 turnovers and 27 rebounds in the contest. Terry had 5 steals, 29 turnovers and 26 rebounds. CCHS shot 63 percent on free throws (10 of 16), 51 percent on two-pointers (21 of 41), but only 13 percent from beyond the arc (4 of 30). Three Lady Bulldog players finished the game with double digit points, led by Nasya O'Connor with 18. She also led the team in rebounds with 11 (7 of which were offensive). Heidi LaBree had 8 steals to go along with her 14 points. Lady Terrier Carmen Lacquement led her squad offensively with 13 points.

In Broadus the following night, the Lady 'Dogs did a better job rebounding, but tallied up 19 turnovers. A huge second quarter gave CCHS a lead that was enough to put the game away though, as they went into the half up by 29. The girls had 40 rebounds compared to 32 for Broadus, and had 14 steals. The Lady Hawks won the turnover battle by 4, and shot 12 more free throws than CCHS. Heidi LaBree led CCHS with 22 points, 12 of which came from behind the arc. She also had 5 steals, but turned it over 5 times. Codi Melton and Nasya O'Connor each had 8 rebounds in the game; Tyra O'Connor had 10 points and grabbed 7 boards. The Lady Bulldogs shot 53 percent from the charity stripe and 35 percent from the field (23 of 66).

A busy slate of games is on tap for the District 4C leading Lady 'Dogs. This Friday they are scheduled to play at home versus Wibaux, on Saturday the play in Jordan, and on Tuesday, January 31st they will play a non-conference game in Baker. No girls junior varsity scores for games that took place over the last week were reported.
