The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to announce and invite the public to comment on a proposal to reconstruct approximately nine miles of Montana Highway 7 (MT 7), north of Ekalaka. The project begins roughly 8 miles north of Ekalaka, ending 2 miles north of the intersection with Secondary Highway 322 (Webster Road).
Proposed work includes complete reconstruction of the roadway, including improved roadway geometry and slopes, two-foot-wide shoulders with rumble strips, new drainage structures, upgraded signage and pavement markings. The purpose of the project is to bring this section of MT 7 up to current standards, enhancing safety features and reducing maintenance costs.
A target construction date will be determined based on the anticipated completion of all design activities and funding availability. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
An important part of properly planning for future projects is partnering with the community. The Montana Department of Transportation welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at http://www.mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Glendive office, PO Box 890, Glendive, MT 59330-0890. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10279000.
The public is encouraged to contact Glendive District Preconstruction Engineer Jim Frank at 406-345-8214 or Project Design Engineer Steve Heidner at 406-345-8247 with questions or comments about the project.
