On September 29th at Terry, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs won a conference match against the Terriers in three sets, 26-24, 25-19 and 26-24. Codi Melton led the way with 5 of the team’s 15 aces and 4 of 11 digs. Kendall Shepherd had 7 of the team’s 27 kills and Carli Aho had 13 of the team’s 22 assists. Tyra O’Connor had the only block for CCHS in the match.
On Saturday the Lady Bulldogs served as hosts for the Willa Nies Memorial Volleyball Tournament. The girls went 2-2 in tournament play, defeating Plevna and Baker and falling to Jordan and Circle.
In the first match, Ekalaka downed Plevna 25-13 and 25-10. Melton again led in aces (4 of 14) and Shepherd again led in kills (3 of 15). Heidi LaBree had 8 of 12 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.
In their second match of the tournament, the Bulldogs played the mustangs of Jordan tough for two sets, but lost both (27-29 and 23-25). O’Connor had a strong match. She led in kills (7 of 23) and had both of the team’s blocks. Melton and Brynn Loehding each had 3 digs for CCHS and LaBree led in assists (10 of 18).
Against Baker in their third match, CCHS lost the first set 23-25 but won the next two 25-23 and 17-15. LaBree had 4 of 8 aces and 9 of 14 assists in the contest. Shepherd had a team-high 5 kills and the team’s only block.
In their final tourney match, the CCHS Lady ‘Dogs fell in two straight sets to Circle (18-25, 19-25). O’Connor and Kendall Kittelmann each had one ace in the match. O’Connor also had a team-high 5 kills. LaBree led in assists (8 of 15) and Shepherd again had one block.
Lady Blue will stay busy over the next several days with matches at Wibaux this Thursday, Circle on Friday, and in Buffalo, South Dakota next Tuesday.
