The CCHS Bulldogs improved their record to 2-4 on the season with a win over Poplar at home on September 30th. The boys are 2-3 in conference as their other loss came in the season opener versus non-conference opponent Broadus.
The game against Poplar was in-hand early as CCHS took a first quarter lead and scored at will throughout most of the game. The 35-point running clock went into effect for a while, but Poplar was able to connect on a few deep pass plays and brought the game back under 35 on separate occasions. Poplar combined speed on the outside with accurate throws down the field against a struggling 'Dogs pass defense. The Bulldogs still won handily though, 62-34, and more importantly every player suited for Blue played a lot of minutes on both sides of the ball, gaining experience that will be valuable going forward.
This Saturday CCHS will play an afternoon game in Circle. The 'Dogs have been plagued with injuries for most of the season but have a chance to get a few key players back before playing against the Wildcats. Historically, games in Circle have been a dog fight for CCHS football, and this Saturday fans should look forward to more of the same.
