Netters open season at Fairview tourney

The CCHS Lady Bulldogs opened their 2022 season at a non-conference tournament in Fairview last Saturday. In four, two-set matches, Ekalaka won a total of four sets and lost four.

Against Richey/Lambert, the girls won the first set 25-18 and lost the second 25-27. The team had 16 kills, 16 assists, 9 digs, 11 aces and 3 blocks. Senior Carly Aho had 10 assists and 6 aces. Kendall Shepherd and Heidi LaBree each had 5 kills for the Lady Bulldogs.

Against the Hawks of Broadus, Blue won the first set 25-23 and lost the second 7-25. Senior Tyra O’Connor led the team with 3 of 12 total kills, Brynn Loehding had 3 of 6 aces and Kendall Shepherd had the team’s only block. Kendall Kittelmann tallied 3 of 7 team digs. Heidi LaBree and Carly Aho tied for a team-high in assists with 4.

In the third match, CCHS swept MonDak in two straight sets, 25-15 and 25-19. Heidi LaBree led the team in aces (4), kills (4) and assists (4). Kendall Shepherd again led CCHS in blocks with 2 and Tracy Wilson had 2 of Blue’s 6 digs.

In the Lady Bulldogs’ final match at Fairview, they were defeated in two straight sets by the Lady Mustangs of Jordan, 18-25 and 12-25. Carly Aho led in aces (2 of 3) and Heidi LaBree led in assists (5 of 8). Codi Melton and Kendall Shepherd had 3 kills each for Blue. Melton also tied with Brynn Loehding for a team-high in digs (3).

This Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs will play versus the Lady Mustangs again, this time at home.
