Several more programs and events scheduled for this month at museum
Carter County Museum kicked off its summer Junior Scientist program with a series of paleontology-themed activities throughout the month of June. The young scientists have investigated coprolites, learned about fossil formation, generated casts and searched for microscopic fossils in sediment!
CCM has many fun events for the entire family to enjoy throughout July. Below are details for upcoming Junior Scientist programs as well as other off-site events. All events will take place at the museum unless otherwise indicated and are free to the public.
Tuesday, July 5th
Oozing Oobleck, 1-2 p.m. | Oobleck! Such an interesting fluid, or is it a solid? You decide when you make your own!
Solar Sizzle, 3-4 p.m. | The sun is one hot commodity! Come learn about the sun with sun-themed activities and crafts to take home!
Thursday, July 7th
Volcanoes!, 1-2 p.m. | Volcanoes are such fascinating geologic structures! Join CCM to learn about these fiery friends with fun hands-on activities!
Fossil Stamps and Micro Sort, 3-4 p.m. | Learn about fossils and help CCM sort through sediment to find the tiniest of fossils!
Friday, July 8th
All About Amber, 1-2 p.m. | CCM has some fascinating amber projects going on at the museum! After a brief introduction to amber, stick around for amber crafts to take home!
Cool Crystals, 3-4 p.m. | We know geology rocks, but how do we get such cool crystals? Come find out at the museum!
Monday, July 11th
Slime Time!, 1-2 p.m.| Slime. Need we say more? Prepare to get messy with today's gooey activity!
Pendulum Art, 3-4 p.m. | Physics can generate some awesome art if you time it right! Take home your own masterpiece generated by science!
Tuesday, July 12th
Paper Bag Day, 1-2 p.m. | Paper Bag Day occurs on July 12 each year and celebrates the humble paper bag, which does so much more than carrying our groceries. Learn about this ingenious invention and how we can reuse it for crafts!
Pollution Solutions, 3-4 p.m. | Continuing with the day's celebration of the paper bag, stop by to learn about pollution and how you can reduce your impact on the planet!
Wednesday, July 13th
Supermoon Star Party at McNab Pond, 8:30 p.m. | Join CCM as we marvel at the moon! Moon activities until sunset followed by star gazing!
Thursday, July 14th
Shark Awareness Day, 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. | Yes, we are far, far away from the nearest beach, but we have our own neat nautical friends here in Carter County!
Friday, July 15th
Bird is the Word, 1-2 p.m. | As long as it's not too much of a birdin, join CCM to learn about both modern and extinct birds!
Little Birdie Snack Bar, 3-4 p.m. | Following the previous session, we will talk about birds in the area and make snacks our feathery friends can enjoy!
Monday, July 18th
Prehistoric Plants and DIY Terrarium, 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. | Discover how incredible prehistoric plants were and then construct your own terrarium to keep!
Wednesday, July 20th
Moon Day, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1-2 p.m. | Join the museum for a day all about our moon!
