President approves Montana disaster declaration for historic flooding after urging by Tester, Daines, Rosendale

After urging by U.S. Senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines and Congressman Matt Rosendale, President Biden today approved their request for a major disaster declaration as a result of severe weather and substantial rainfall. Yesterday, the Montana delegation sent a letter to President Biden urging him to approve the State of Montana’s request for the disaster declaration.

“We are glad President Biden has approved the State of Montana’s much-needed major disaster declaration,” the Montana delegation said in a joint statement. “Severe flooding has already wreaked havoc on Montana communities and Yellowstone National Park, and we haven’t seen the last of it yet. This damage will have a significant impact on Montana’s economy, and we hope to see disaster assistance distributed swiftly and effectively, so that Montanans can begin rebuilding their homes, their businesses, and their lives.”

The State of Montana submitted a disaster declaration request to the federal government on June 15, 2022 in response to major flooding across south-central Montana, which has resulted in significant property damage to homes, businesses, roads, sewers, water systems and Yellowstone National Park. Acting Governor Kirsten Juras declared a statewide disaster on June 14, 2022. Approval of the major disaster declaration by the President will activate critical FEMA assistance and support recovery efforts.
