Enjoy summer events at Carter County Museum

Carter County Museum recently introduced Chloe Chambers as Museum Educator for the summer of 2022. Chambers came from Georgia where she is a high school science teacher. Last week, she spent time teaching atlatl throwing during 4-H camp at Camp Needmore and at Buzzard Days in Makoshika State Park.

Over the next few weeks, she will lead a series of pop-up programs as part of the museum's Junior Scientist series, including Coprolite Action, Operation: Fossil ID, Micro-Sort and Create a Cast! Activity descriptions can be found in the accompanying graphic. Dates in July will be announced next month.

Celebrate summer solstice June 21st with Carter County Museum at Medicine Rocks State Park. From 4 to 6 p.m. at Sunset Loop, the museum will have an educational talk about the summer solstice with solar-themed activities to follow! Attendees should bring water and walking shoes. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be relocated to the Carter County Museum.

In addition to the Junior Scientist Series, CCM is hosting Yoga at the Museum on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. June 22 and 29, July 6, 13 and 27 and August 3. On Thursday, July 21, at 8 p.m. a special Sunset Yoga event will be held at the Sunset Loop at Medicine Rocks State Park, followed by a Dark Sky Event. Yoga classes are led by Melissa Schwede and participants are encouraged to bring their own mats and water bottles.

For the crafty folks, Carter County Museum is offering Sewing Soiree's on June 17 and July 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on June 26 and July 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a sewing machine or other craft (knitting, crochet, etc.) and work on your own project or help with a museum craft. You do not need to stay for the whole period and may come and go as you please.

All events are free and open to the public, though donations are always appreciated. All are located at the museum unless otherwise stated. Updates and further information will be posted on the museum's Instagram and Facebook pages.

Please also save the date for the 10th Annual Dino Shindig on July 23 and 24. The field expedition is sold out, but there are plenty of other activities available and a stellar speaker lineup. More details about this award-winning event will be announced in July.
