Each year the Knights of Columbus sponsors a free throw contest for girls and boys ages nine through fourteen. The contest proceeds in several steps. The first step is the council competition in which contestants shoot 15 free throws in a row. Depending on their age and sex, each contestant shoots with the appropriate ball from either 12 or 15 feet.
The next step is a district contest where the council winners compete against shooters from other councils in the immediate area. In this contest, each participant shoots 25 free throws in a row. Winners of the district contest have their scores sent to the Montana State Knights of Columbus to compete against other district winners.
This year two area shooters have been named Montana State Champions in their age groups.
The Montana KC Free Throw Champion for 9 year-old boys is Hudson Coulter of Baker. Coulter poured in 17 of 25 free throws.
The Montana KC Free Throw Champion for 14 year-old girls is Nasya O'Connor of Ekalaka. O'Connor made 15 of 25 free throws. She was presented with a trophy for her efforts last week in Ekalaka.
Scores will now be sent to the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council for international consideration.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Men's Organization with emphasis on charity, family, youth, fraternity and church.
