Upcoming museum events

April is Montana Archaeology Month and this year Carter County Museum is partnering with the Bureau of Land Management (Miles City Office) for an artifact roadshow on Saturday, April 16 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the museum. The public is welcome to bring items from their personal collections to be identified or shared with other history and paleontology buffs. BLM archaeologists will be at the event, as will Dr. Nathan Carroll to identify paleontological items.

Please note a monetary value will not be assigned to any item, nor are participants under any obligation to donate that object to the museum.

Every year, the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) hosts International Dark Sky Week during the month of April in order to create greater awareness about light pollution and its negative consequences, the solutions, and simultaneously celebrate the night. This year, IDA is inviting everyone to discover the night during the week of April 22-30. Carter County Museum will have the tabletop exhibit "Starry Skies and Medicine Rocks State Park" on display during this time. The exhibit explains the designation of Medicine Rocks State Park as an International Dark Sky Sanctuary, the nocturnal modern and prehistoric life in the area, and the risks of light pollution. Finally, as a reminder, the museum has switched to seasonal hours and is now open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on these events contact the museum at 406-775-6886.
