Did you know in Montana drowning is the second leading cause of death in children through 17 years of age. Here are just a few Montana stats: 29 children drowned in Montana ranging from infants up through 17 years of age (2013 through 2020). Fifty-two percent died in open water such as rivers, lakes, creeks; 28% died in other types of water: irrigation ditches, canals, etc .; and 17% died in bathtubs.

Join Carter County Public Health and Fallon County Public Health for Water Safety Day on June 1 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Baker Lake in Baker.

Kiddo’s age 2-12 who pre-register by April 1 will receive a free life jacket. Also on this day will be a chance to win some other great prizes like a paddle board, kids kayak, and other great items. Fish Wildlife and Parks will be on hand sharing water safety information, and free lunch for the whole family will be available. Make sure to pre-register for this event by April 1 to be eligible to receive a free child life jacket. You can find the form to complete on our facebook page, or at Ekalaka Public Schools.
