Gerald "Jerry" Schell

Funeral services for Gerald "Jerry" Schell, 69, of Baker, were held November 26 at First Baptist Church in Baker with Pastor James Parks officiating. Burial followed at Bonnievale Cemetery.

Jerry passed away November 20, 2021 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan, WY.

Jerry was born October 11, 1952 to Vernard and LaVerne (Stoltenberg) Schell. He grew up learning about the farming/ranching life and was educated in Westmore for two years, then completed his education in the Plevna Schools. After graduation he remained on the farm until Jerry met Bev (Beverly Bertsch). The two were married on September 9, 1972 at the First Baptist Church in Baker. Together they purchased their own farm/ranch operation and made their life there for the next 27 years raising their family. Their union brought two beautiful daughters, Missy and Amber. Jerry took much pride and love in teaching his daughters about the way of life he loved. This included learning to run every piece of equipment on the farm.

In 1995 Jerry took a job working in the oilfield and in 1998 Jerry and Bev decided to sell their farm/ranch operation and move to Baker. In 2007 Jerry compassionately supported his wife in starting her dream flower shop. He loved helping Bev with projects there and especially enjoyed delivering flowers and greeting each customer with a smile. Due to failing health, he retired from the oilfield in 2018. Over the years he enjoyed being a substitute bus driver for Plevna and Baker.

Jerry was a man who had an easy smile and was always quick to laugh. He was a devoted husband and father. His gentle nature, love for the farm and family allowed him to spend quality time with his grandchildren. Many donuts were eaten and countless hours spent riding in the side-by-side together. He loved camping and was always up for a good game of "Old Maid'' or "Uno" with the grandkids.

Jerry was a man of faith and music. He shared his talent singing in the church and a favorite pastime was listening to the gospel quartet. Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church and served many positions during his church life. He had a huge heart for serving the Lord and wanted all people to know Christ. He was not afraid to share the gospel, his life's passion was to bring people to the fold.

Jerry will be greatly missed by, wife of 49 years, Bev; daughters, Missy (Bobby) Thielen, Amber (Mark) Lawlar; grandchildren, Whitney, Wyatt and Wiley Thielen, Sydnee and Kenzie Lawlar; mother, LaVerne Schell; brother, Keith (Debbie) Schell; in-laws, Bonnie (Ray), Teddie (Stan), and Milbert; numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews.
