Find joy
Hello God, it’s me, Mara:
You know, Lord, a while back, friends stopped by one cool day; we sat out and watched a variety of birds checking out the birdbath. Sparrows seemed to enjoy dipping, sipping and just checking around. A few Robins came by, sipping deep, followed by several Black Birds. Even a colorful Woodpecker stopped to check things out. That was amusing, too. Then two Asian Mourning Doves came, which aren’t really ‘friends’ to the original Mourning Doves who used to visit. These spoiled brats dominated the Birdbath, chasing all the other birds away. Friend ‘Dee’ spoke, “Now THAT one is a real bully.” We watched as he was busy harassing the other birds who wanted a drink, preventing them from coming near, and he didn’t take time to sip a drink or bathe either.
“That bird reminds me of a ‘brat’ of a guy my Dad used to know – he acted just like that bird,” ‘Dee’ chuckled. ‘Reminds me of some of us when we’re too greedy to share, like even sharing the last chocolate cookie on the plate,’ ‘Dee’ laughed.
“Reminds me of a couple kids in kindergarten,” shared Heather. “One had a dog named Sparky, that dog hated chickens and turkeys but he did keep an eye out for the coyotes who wanted to ‘visit’ the farm yard, then added, ‘Mama loved watching birds in the morning, and was filled with Joy[1] - sometimes she’d even sing, while she sat quietly outside, watching birds, rabbits, and even Goldfinches dart by”.
The other little girl said her neighbors had a Billy Goat; she said Mrs. F.T. told her that ‘Billy’ thought he ran the farm.’
“Animals seem to be just like most of us people, right?” Chuckled ‘Dee’
Love, Mara
