Plevna resident honors husband with 5K to raise funds for Alzheimer's care and research

Michele Gray of Plevna is organizing a local 5K run/walk on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 9:00a.m. at Baker Lake Gazebo. An Alzheimer’s Association “The Longest Day” event, area residents are invited to take part, raising funds and awareness to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s disease and all dementia.

“In 2015, my husband, Roscoe, was diagnosed with Early/Younger Onset Alzheimer’s Dementia at the age of 57,” said Gray, “He passed away just a few years later. When Ross was diagnosed, we learned that there were no treatments available to cure this disease nor prolong his life. My hope is one day there will be a cure for this disease and that no one else will ever have to watch their loved one suffer with Alzheimer’s. For now, my goal is to help other families navigate their way through the Alzheimer’s journey.”

The event, sponsored by Bank of Baker, will feature a no-host coffee truck, donuts and water. The first 50 participants will receive “The Longest Day’ caps and lanyards. This inaugural run/walk is sponsored by Bank of Baker. To learn how you can get involved as a participant, sponsor or donor, please contact Gray at michelegray97@gmail.com.
