Williams and Williams elected to school board

Votes were tallied Tuesday night for the recent school election.

Unofficial results show that Lynn Williams and Tye B. Williams have been elected to fill three-year terms as trustees for Ekalaka Elementary District #15 and High School District #3. Lynn Williams received 266 votes and Tye B. Williams received 186 votes. Both defeated incumbents Micheal Ashbrook and Cassidy Jesperson who received 184 votes and 121 votes, respectively.

Voter turnout was at 63 percent as 405 ballots were cast from 647 registered voters. Every vote did, indeed, count as Tye B. Williams finished the night with only two more votes than Ashbrook.

Lisa Borchgrevink, recently appointed to the board, ran unopposed to fill one, 1-year term. She received 338 votes.

The building reserve fund levy proposition for Carter County High School in the amount of $150,000 per year for three years (approximately 8.55 mills and a total amount of $450,000) passed. There were 301 votes for and 211 votes against the levy proposition. 512 ballots were returned by 873 active voters, a 59 percent turnout. The funds are for the purpose of proper maintenance and/or repair on the building.

In 2017, a levy for financing the high school building reserve fund in the amount of $100,000 per year for three years passed by a narrower margin with 269 votes for and 238 votes against. That money was used to replace the old boiler at the school.
