Due to the lack of a field in Ekalaka, there will not be any local youth or adult baseball or softball this year.
Tee-ball, usually beginning on the first Wednesday in May, last had a season in 2019 when over thirty kids were a part of the program.
Local baseball and softball supporters have been working to get a new ball field in Ekalaka since the county elected to fence off the old field that sat between the fairgrounds and high school football field. The baseball field was fenced off in order to make more room for the fairgrounds. After that, games were held at the small park next to the old grade school until construction of the new hospital began in 2020.
The baseball program has raised some money through donations, but supporters continue to struggle to find a location. Dawg House Pub donated over $1,000 from the kids zone inflatables and mechanical bull that were on Main Street during the 2020 fair, and several individuals have also donated within the last year. The funds will be used for costs associated with putting in a new field if/when a location is secured.
