CCHS Track and Field started practice March 15 under the direction of first-year head coach Brett Nielsen. For many of the athletes, this is their first year competing, and after missing last year due to a COVID-19-canceled spring season, things feel new for the upperclassmen too.
Still, there seems to be one emotion that's driven the first few weeks of practice for Nielsen and his team.
Excitement.
CCHS is scheduled to compete in five regular track meets throughout eastern Montana prior to the district meet in Baker on May 13th, along with the top ten meet in Glasgow for any athletes that may qualify.
On Tuesday, all of the student-athletes on the team threw everything they had into the javelin.
There are currently eight students on the track and field roster, and Nielsen says there may be another added soon. High schoolers competing this season are David Ashbrook, Tyra O'Connor, Brynn Loehding, Avory Matthews, Brennen Bonsell, Ethan Frye, Brayden Bucholz and Ryker Carroll.
A current season schedule follows:
Glendive, April 10
Baker, April 17
Sidney, April 24
Glendive, May 1
TOP TEN - Glasgow, May 4
Miles City, May 8
DISTRICTS - Baker, May 13
DIVISIONALS - Laurel, May 20
STATE - Missoula, May 28-29
