Twenty-four-year-old Broc Patterson is the newest employee at Dahl Memorial. He worked his first shift at the hospital on January 5.
Patterson grew up twenty minutes north of Salt Lake City in Layton, Utah. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Utah University in December of 2019.
Since graduation, Patterson has spent time working as an RN at the University of Utah Hospital. Most recently, he was the assistant director of nursing at an assisted living facility.
The biggest draw for Patterson to come work as an RN at Dahl Memorial in Ekalaka, he says, is the fact that he will be able to maintain and grow his skill set in the emergency room while also forming personal relationships with patients he will get to spend a lot of time with in the long-term care facility. He is also looking forward to working in the new hospital facility once construction is complete this year.
Patterson has friends who live in the area which was also a factor in his decision to move here. He admitted that he has never been around cattle, and that he finds it hard to believe he's living an hour and a half away from the nearest Wendy's.
Besides a passion for his work, he said that he is a big sports fan and has played football his entire life. Patterson also likes to go hiking and boating, and is excited to bring his dirt bike here where he said it's as if he could "get on and ride it forever."
