Lowell Cordell, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Camp Crook, SD on October 4, 2020.
Lowell was born June 2, 1944 in Buffalo, SD to Robert "Bob" and Bessie (Davis) Cordell. He and his older sister, Beverly, spent their early years growing up on his parents' ranch on Tie Creek. The family moved to Grandpa Ed Cordell's original place near the Little Missouri River in the late 1940's. Lowell attended grade school in Camp Crook through fourth grade. The remaining grade school and high school years were spent at Belle Fourche. Lowell was a member of the track and basketball teams during his school years.
Lowell married Donna Abelseth in August of 1964. To this union four children were born: Wanda, Terry, Robert "Bobby" and Danna. The first two years of their marriage were spent living at the ranch in the "little bunkhouse". Lowell and his family eventually moved to Camp Crook where he spent the rest of his life.
In his younger years, Lowell worked at various jobs including the sugar beet factory and the sale ring in Belle Fourche. He tied and tromped wool for his Dad's shearing crew before learning to shear himself. He sheared sheep nearly every spring until the early 1990's. Through the years, Lowell worked for several area ranchers, at the sawmill, he helped construct buildings at the Sky Ranch and even ran a grocery store. Lowell had a passion for gardening, canning, butchering and pulling pranks on others. He will be remembered the most though, for his passion for hunting and fishing. Not only for himself, but for others. Many hunters can thank him for the "big buck" hanging on their wall. He especially enjoyed taking a youngster out to shoot their first buck or taking them to any fishing hole. Many stories can be told of his hunting and fishing experiences.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Betty Cordell; and special dogs, Poco and Bow.
He is survived by his brother, Alvin (Marlee) Cordell; sisters, Ronda Cordell and Beverly Anderson; daughter, Wanda (Dan) Paulson, and their children, Channing (Paul) Stellato, Mattaya (Justin) Addison, Wyatt Maciejewski (Kasey), and Abbigayle Maciejewski (Gus); son, Terry (Tammy) Cordell, and his children, Ty (Sally) Cordell; son, Bobby (Sam) Cordell, and their children, Caitlin (Shorty) Shinbarger, Brandon Cordell, Forest (Lindsey) Sainsbury, and great grandchildren, Sloan and Seger Sainsbury; daughter, Danna (Cody) Selting, and their children, Aleisha Loken, Kelsey Loken, Micah (Katie) Selting; and his faithful companion, Pup.
Visitation was held October 9, 2020 at Camp Crook Area Community Center. Graveside services followed at Fairview Cemetery.
