Dogs wallop Dogies

The Carter County Bulldogs marched the ball effectively on offense all night against the Forsyth Dogies at home on Rowley Field last Friday night. But, what was even more impressive was their defense as they held the Dogies scoreless and forced a number of turnovers.

The Dogs first offensive drive ended in a fifteen yard Turner Tooke scamper at the 3:59 mark in the first quarter. Freshman tailback Ethan Frye, who was called to duty to replace injured senior Jared Pardee, ran in the conversion.

The Dogies struggled to stop the Dogs' run game all night, becoming subject to an impressive veer option and a heavy dose of quarterback runs throughout the contest.

The first play of the second quarter was a twenty yard touchdown pass from Tooke to Seth Kennedy. Tooke again connected with Kennedy on the conversion. Minutes later, Tooke scored on a quarterback keeper from three yards out and the Dogs went up, 22-0.

Tooke ran in another score from five yards out to put the Dogs up 28-0 at the half.

There were only two more scores over the remainder of the contest as the Dogs continued to chew the clock on the ground. Tooke punched in a one yard keeper in the third quarter and Frye scored from two yards out in the fourth. Tooke threw a two-point conversion to David Ashbrook to end the scoring, 42-0.

The Bulldogs were missing seven players for the game on Friday but younger players and reserves stepped up, many in new positions, and got the job done. Ashbrook, a senior, played in his first-ever game at tight end and did a fine job. Sophomore J.W. Elmore and senior Ryan Rychner both moved to defensive end for the Bulldogs and wreaked havoc on the Dogies offense all night. Caiden Chavarria played almost the entire game both ways. He racked up a few tackles as an interior defensive lineman and made some good blocks at guard on offense.

This week CCHS is on a bye. The bye week could not have come at a better time as it will allow the Dogs some time off to get healed up before playing three key games to wrap up the regular season.
