The Carter County Bulldogs will look to get back on track this Friday at home versus the Forsyth Doggies after losing to Scobey on their homecoming last week, 22-56. The Bulldogs' record now stands at 2-2 on the season and they will need to beat Forsyth (0-3) in order to maintain a chance at making the playoffs.
CCHS struggled again on defense, as they tried several different things to slow down Scobey's passing attack. The Spartans' quarterback, Jayce Tande, finished the game completing 10-of-13 passes for 189 yards. Scobey also ran the ball effectively against the Dogs, 28 times for 167 yards (5.9 average).
The Bulldogs moved the ball well too. As a team they had 60 carries for 264 yards, a 4.4 yard average. But, it was a case of bend don't break for Scobey on defense, as the Dogs only got the ball into the end zone on three drives. Untimely miscues, fumbles and penalties put CCHS behind the chains too many times.
Scobey scored on all six of their first-half possessions at Rowley Field and their first eight overall. The Dogs' defense held some, allowing the Spartans to convert on only 3 of 7 third downs, but Scobey went 3 -3 on fourth down. Some long pass plays on early downs also went the distance.
CCHS scored on their first possession of the game. The drive went 62 yards in 6 plays and was capped by a 28-yard touchdown run from senior Jared Pardee. Pardee also ran in the conversion to tie the game at 8.
Blue's second score came midway through the second quarter. It was again Pardee, this time from four yards out. The score capped an impressive 11 play drive in which the Dogs converted on 3rd-and-short three consecutive times. Pardee also added the conversion, bringing the Dogs back within striking distance, 28-16.
Junior Quarterback Turner Tooke scored the final touchdown for CCHS on their opening possession of the third quarter. Tooke broke off a 14 yard run, capping a 10 play, 65-yard drive that lasted over 7 minutes.
The Bulldogs failed to punch in the conversion and the score was 22-42.
Scobey put up one more score in the third quarter and one in the fourth, resulting in the 22-56 final score.
