CCHS will play Scobey Friday

The Bulldogs threw the ball only three times and scored on every possession en route to a large 84-24 victory in Culbertson last Friday.

Blue scored early and often, but struggles covering kickoffs and defending the pass early in the contest led to a closer game at halftime than the final score read. Junior varsity players and backups didn't, in fact, get into the game until partway through the third quarter.

Younger players kept the scoring up for Blue when they got in the game while keeping the Cowboys out of the end zone. Freshman Ethan Frye ran in two scores in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Cardell Laughery, in his first ever snap at quarterback, scored on a quarterback keeper up the middle.

Culbertson scored the first time they touched the ball, returning a kickoff some sixty yards. Two other scores came on deep pass plays where receivers ran wide open, and their final score came on a broken play where the Bulldogs missed a number of tackles.

This Friday CCHS will take on a tough Scobey team for homecoming. They will need to improve their pass defense in order to get a win. The Dogs have a 2-1 record on the season, as do the Spartans. Scobey's one loss so far this season was on a last second fake field goal from Westby-Grenora, who currently sit atop the Montana Eastern 8-Man Conference.

Kickoff for CCHS Homecoming is 7 p.m. at Rowley Field. A number of homecoming events will be taking place prior to the contest.
