BLM seeks comments on American Colloid's modification of plan to mine bentonite in Carter County

The Bureau of Land Management is accepting comments on an environmental assessment that analyzes potential impacts from a modification to American Colloid Company’s existing plan of operations to mine bentonite in Carter County.

The comment period will end on Oct. 1, 2020.

The proposed modification occurs entirely on BLM surface and mineral estate and includes the potential expansion of disturbance to an additional 95 acres of land within their authorized Montana Department of Environmental Quality Open-cut Permit #190.

Comments may also be mailed or hand-delivered to the BLM Miles City Field Office at 111 Garryowen Road, Miles City, MT 59301. In the address line include: “ACC Modification, Attn: Carissa Shilling.”

Those who intend to provide comments are advised that including an address, phone number, email address or other personal-identifying information, may be made publicly available at any time. While those commenting can ask in their comments to have personal-identifying information withheld from public review, the agencies cannot guarantee that they will be able to do so. All submissions from organizations, from businesses and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives of organizations or businesses, will be available for public review.
