A potential field

Local baseball and softball supporters have been trying to get a new ball field in Ekalaka since the county elected to fence off the old field that sat between the fairgrounds and high school football field. The baseball field was fenced off in order to make more room for the fairgrounds a number of years ago.

Baseball enthusiasts are hopeful that they have finally found a new location. The proposed site sits close to the creek bottom across from the town park at the same location where the old horseshoe pits were. The field will likely face the northeast.

Though it hasn't been finalized, if the land can be used volunteers hope to have a workable field by next spring. In 2019, the tee-ball program had over thirty kids sign-up and games were held at the old grade school field. This year, with construction beginning on the new hospital facility, there was nowhere to hold games or practices so no season was held.

Dawg House Pub graciously donated all of the proceeds from the kids zone inflatables and mechanical bull that they set up on Main Street during Saturday night of the fair to the baseball program. The money, totaling $1,062, will be used for costs associated with putting in a new field. Any persons who would like to see a new baseball field in Ekalaka can send additional donations to: Ekalaka Baseball, P.O. Box 45, Ekalaka, MT 59324.
