Carter County Museum has put a significant amount of energy to adjusting the Shindig this year in light of COVID-19. In addition to practicing social distancing, wearing masks and sanitizing, museum staff have stressed to potential visitors the need to exercise extreme caution and good discretion before entering the Town of Ekalaka.
A statement from the museum in regard to this year's Shindig follows:
"It is with heavy hearts that we have had to cancel or significantly alter portions of our annual Dino Shindig, which has become a cherished local tradition and economic boost.
That said, we understand how difficult the last few months have been on local families and will therefore still host a fun variety of kids' activities on the museum lawn from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 25, the first day of Shindig. We are encouraging healthy nearby residents to come to the museum to enjoy dino mini-golf, T. rex corn hole, 'Hungry Hungry Mosasaurs,' and much more! We will have hand washing stations and will be sanitizing surfaces between users.
But wait, there's more! Although nearly all of our speakers are unable to travel to the area at this time, they will still be giving virtual talks that will be broadcast at the Lutheran Church and at the museum for a socially distanced local audience. Chairs will be spaced 6 feet apart and masks will be provided free of charge for all attendees with plenty of sanitizer available. Crowd size will be limited to 50 people. At the end of the virtual lectures, three in-person talks will be given by Montana paleontologist Cary Woodruff, CCM adjunct curator Nathan Carroll and CCM Marketing & Communications Coordinator/Resident Artist Jenn Hall."
