Promoting local spending

J&J Guide Service owners Rich and Sue Schneider announced a two-week long "Shop Local" competition on April 17 to promote local businesses. Residents were invited to text or email every time they spent money at a local business for entry into a drawing for a gift basket filled with an assortment of goodies and gifts from local businesses.

What started as one basket soon blossomed into three gift baskets as area businesses and individuals provided items for the baskets. Sue Schneider wrote to the Eagle that not only did it help to promote local businesses, but that the competition was a fun way to "relieve the quarantine blues."

Winners of the contest were recently drawn by local girl scout Cordelia Cofer.

Gift certificates or gifts in the baskets came from the following individuals and businesses: Dale Diede and Robin Markuson, Becky Erickson - Hair by Becky, Cecile Smith-Kuehn - Broken Arrow Boutique, Fruit Service and Repair, Alison's Pantry - Irene Hendricks, Naked Bee - Michelle Mehling, Amsol Products - Paul Mehling, Heidi Morton, Curvey Ranch Girl Clothing and Tack, Isogenix - Brittani Brence.

The baskets also included gifts from: Wagon Wheel Cafe, The Avon Store, Stompin' Grounds, A&A Stieg Wholesale, Melissa Lovec - balloons, and Cordelia Cofer - Girl Scout cookies.
